Named after Sir Richard Cartwright, a local land-owner, the Village of Cartwright was incorporated in 1948. Based on the 2006 census data, 282 people live in the village with 34 percent of the population age 65 years and over. The median age is 57.4 years.Cartwright joined the Age-Friendly Manitoba Initiative in February 2008 (first round).
